"Life is all about choices. It's a maze you have to walk through. The path we choose will decide our fate, our destiny, our very identity. Once you choose a path, you have to walk it. There is no turning back. I find myself now at the darkest part of the maze. Everyday is just another day for me."

the changing face of mangalore

As the title suggests, these pics sorta suggests the changing face of Mangalore... from quaint little seaside town to a bustling city.

The tree in question is one that I've seen ever since I was a kid, right in front of my house. Seems the ol' tree was around forever. Must be a hundred years old or something. And now it makes way for progress - a four lane concrete road. Off with the old, on with the new as they say.

Well, they ain't cutting it down. No siree, they're just moving it. Huh, you say? Yep, they dug a huge pit about a hundred metres away (on the other side of the crossroad), pulled up this tree with the roots, and as I write this, they're moving the tree with the help of a coupla huge cranes. I sit here in my room, lookin thru the window, as 'Operation Ctrl-X Ctrl-V' happens.

Oh, and the building in the background? That's my good ol' alma mater. :)

Three against one - the power of nature?

Current mood: Mixed - melancholy perhaps.
Current music: Pal pal.. har pal - Lage Raho Munnabhai (don't miss this movie!)

This came in Mangalore times Page 3 today! Is it the same tree as in that picture?

Are they really taking so much pain to put every tree on the road to diff places?

i hav never been to mlore so no senti issues here.but m real glad tat dey r moving d tree in operation ctrl-X n ctrl-V.......generally dere are mere ctrl-X operations as happened on a beautiful stretch of NH-4 between Pune and Kolhapur. the road was treelined (avenue, boulevard type of road), now its just another road.

In Bombay, they actually just build roads around trees. I don't think it's very good sense because the traffic flow is not very regulated & I'm not sure how good it is for the tree too.

Though some trees like the one outside Dadar catering college have lasted in the middle of bustling & busy concrete roads for decades now... hmmmm...

Interesting post this.
